At Bike Lodging we get a great deal of enquiries for bike hotels, chalets, gites and apartments close to the famous 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez. Many of these are for Le Bourg d’Oisans located right at the start of the climb. However many lesser known villages in the valley are within an easy ride of the Alpe d’Huez as well as other classic rides such as the Col du Galibier and the Col du Glandon, both used regularly in the Tour de France.

Le Bourg d’Oisans – Possibly the best known and popular location close to the Alpe d’Huez, this town comes alive in the summer and has loads of bars and bike shops packed with cyclists. The town sits right at the start of the climb to Alpe d’Huez and every wednesday at 10am during the summer an official timed assent of the Alpe d’Huez 21 bends starts form the tourist office.

La Cascade – Beautiful hotel on the outskirts of Bourg, run by a dutch couple just 500 meters from the start of the Alpe d’Huez.
More than 21 bends – Lovely bed and breakfast in central Bourg, run by a very keen cycling/mountain biking couple. Also have their own bike rental shop
Le Bourg d’Oisans Studio – Located in the peaceful hamlet of Les Gauchoirs, just along the valley, but a commune of Bourg, this beautiful studio is perfect for a couple or two friends and has a great bike storage shed and workshop.


Venosc

Venosc

Venosc – Located an easy 14km along the valley from Bourg, including just two short climbs, this picturesque medieval village makes a great alternative to Le Bourg d’Oisans. It is built on the south facing side of the valley, facing the Ecrins National Park. The village has a handful of restaurants, bars and craft shops. It is also has a high speed gondola, accessing the huge mountain bike area of Les Deux Alpes.

Allement – A great alternative to Bourg, in the valley, at the start of many climbs such as the Col du Glandon, Le Col du Croix du Fer, Col du Sabot and the Alpe d’Huez via Villard Reculas, as well as being at the finish line for Mountain biking’s Mega Avalanche.

La Douce Montagne
 – Extremely popular cycling/Mountain Bike hotel in the centre of Allemont. This bike hotel has recently totally re designed its rooms to a very modern and comfortable standard, all with 210cm single beds. The hotel garden are a sun trap and also have a small swimming pool to help coo off after a long ride. Local to the hotel is a larger municipal swimming pool, shops, restaurants and a larger lake for water sports.

Oz en Oisans – The Oz commune are built up of a number of small hamlets built at different altitudes leading up to the mountain resort of Oz resort, which is cnected to Alpe d’Huez by gondola. For mountain biking and events such as the Tour de France and the Mega Avalanche it is possible to access the resort of Alpe d’Huez by gondola. The resort is a modern and friendly with loads to entertain the children.

Vaujany – A beautiful mountain resort village perfect for both mountain biking or road cycling, with direct access to the Alpe d’Huez MTB lift system and easy access to classic cycling routes such as the Col du Glandon, Col du Dabot and the Alpe d’Huez. The village has fantastic services such as restaurants and bars, indoor swimming pool, ice rink, and bowling.

Catered chalet Vaujany – A huge modern two wing chalet which can accommodate up to 26 people in the entire chalet, or split into two smaller five bedroom chalet. This high chalet has extremely good catering, beautiful en-suite rooms and comy living areas, as well as a hot tub.

Les Deux Alpes – This popular mountain biking resort is also great for road cycling, with a similar style climb to the resort to that of Alpe d’Huez, but less south facing, so cooler in the summer months. Those not wanting to climb back to the resort every evening can cheat by taking the gondola form the valley in Vensoc. The resort is lively, with loads of bars, restaurants and activities for the family, but not overly busy.
